Penvenan is a coastal town in Northern Brittany with Celtic
traditions.
Penvénan includes three villages: Penvénan,
Port Blanc and Buguéles. It is in the district of Lannion
and in the Canton of Treguier. It is in the Cotes D’Armor
region of Brittany and is a one hour drive from the Port of
Roscoff and at two hour drive from Dinard Airport. Penvénan
is an agricultural area with farming and market gardening
being the main activities. Port Blanc and Buguéles
are the tourist areas with their fantastic red granite coastlines
dotted with numerous small islands. Port Blanc has a beautiful
white beach called Plage des Dunes and also has a modern Sailing
School. Penvénan has a population of 2500 in Winter
but this number swells to 10000 in the Summer due to tourists
and the large number of people who have holiday homes in Port
Blanc and Buguéles. Penvénan is very rich in
historical and architectural heritage. For more details visit

Penvénan Twinning Committee is a sub committee
of Castlecomer Development Association (C.D.A). It was set
up to organise the twinning of Castlecomer and Penvénan.
In 1998 Patrick Worthington approached C.D.A to see if Castlecomer
was interested in twinning with a town in France. Patrick
is an Englishman living in Penvénan and visits friends
in the neighbouring town of Ballinakill, A delegation from
Castlecomer travelled to Penvénan in May 1999 to view
the area. A delegation from Penvénan returned to Castlecomer
in September. Both delegations were happy with what they saw
and agreed to commence the Twinning process. Plans were put
in place and in April 2000 the Twinning Charter was signed
in Penvénan. The Charter was signed in Castlecomer
on the 28th April 2001.
Since
then the Twinning process has been very active with large
numbers of students and adults traveling back and forth between
Penvenan and Castlecomer. We are always looking for new members
to get involved.
